The max-flow problem has many applications in the field of image analysis. In this section we consider one such problem—the segmentation problem. In it, a given image must be split into foreground and background. At the same time, the user may pre-mark some regions as belonging to the foreground or background—see white and black strokes in the example below (taken from here).
